Eccentric Presses

An eccentric press is a mechanical machine used to punch, bend, cut and emboss metal workpieces. Through a series of purely mechanical movements, these robust machines are built around a sturdy iron or steel frame. Modern eccentric presses are constructed from welded steel plates, offering greater durability and longevity. The C-frame design is common in small to medium-sized machines, as it provides excellent accessibility for operators.

• Suitable for cutting, punching, embossing and bending of metal workpieces
• Operates via purely mechanical movements
• Widely used in steel processing, automotive and turbine manufacturing industries

Unlike hydraulic alternatives, eccentric presses rely entirely on mechanical movement, delivered through either a single or multiple columns. Depending on the model, machines may use a fixed stroke or a series of adjustable strokes to shape metal. A large flywheel, driven by an electric motor and controlled by a clutch, provides the press force. A built-in brake system serves both as an emergency shutdown mechanism and as a functional aid during the pressing cycle.

Unlike a conventional press, an eccentric press uses a motor to drive an eccentric shaft that rotates inside a connecting rod. Because the shaft is perfectly round, it rotates smoothly within the rod while the centre of the drive remains stationary. A ram guides the connecting rod, maintaining consistent, fluid motion around the drive shaft centre – and it is this rotational movement that generates the pressing force.

Eccentric press machines are generally safe when operated by properly trained personnel who understand the required safety protocols. One of the most critical aspects is the correct loading and unloading of workpieces, which directly affects both safety and pressing accuracy. Larger machines typically require two operators and a safety light curtain to eliminate blind zones during operation.

The clutch and brake systems are central not only to the pressing process itself but also to operator safety. These components allow the machine to stop immediately using compressed air. Should the air supply fail, integrated springs provide a secondary mechanism that brings the press to an immediate halt, ensuring reliable protection under all operating conditions.

Eccentric presses are widely used across manufacturing processes where workpieces are relatively small and precision is essential. Industries such as steel production, automotive engineering, and turbine manufacturing regularly rely on eccentric presses for producing component parts. The most common application is die cutting of metal strips and sheets, where consistent force and accuracy are critical. Smaller manufacturers can significantly reduce capital expenditure by investing in a used eccentric press, and running costs can be reduced further by integrating automated feeding equipment.

Finding a quality used eccentric press from a trusted manufacturer has never been easier. Purchasing a second-hand eccentric press not only reduces capital expenditure, it gives your business access to a proven machine with a reliable track record. Our inventory regularly features equipment from leading manufacturers including COLOMBO, DELLAVIA, STANKO, MABU, BEUTLER, HEILBRONN, RUHRMANN, HENSEL, WEINGARTEN, SCHULER and AMBOLD.
